General Pediatrics

Pediatrics encompasses care of the child from the newborn period through age 21. The arrival of a beautiful new baby into their lives is the most important event in a parent’s life. The pediatrician helps raise the child, partners with the parent in health and sickness and fosters a relationship to an open, honest and interactive relationship . Doctors for Kids is happy to provide all aspects or routine pediatric care including:

Prenatal / Pre-adoption Visit:
You may choose to meet us before the child’s arrival into your lives. We will answer any questions you may have about the pregnancy, adoption, breast feeding, or raising the child. Philosophies on parenting, prevention strategies and vaccinations are discussed. The focus is on fostering trust even before the child arrives.

Well Baby Care:
Every visit is a mile stone and the parents and the doctor can enjoy the child’s progress, discuss safety, nutritional and behavioral issues and address any specific concerns that the parents might have about the baby’s health. Development is celebrated and signs of delay watched for carefully. Thorough physicals are provided and anticipatory guidance discussed.

Newborn Care:
The baby is examined at the hospital soon after birth and everyday till the mother is discharged. The CDC recommends Hepatitis B vaccine soon after birth especially in mothers in which the Hepatitis B status is unknown or positive.

Post Discharge Care:
Hooray, the baby is home!! The baby is seen soon after discharge at the doctor’s office to follow up on possible jaundice or weight issues. The doctor will provide instructions on when to follow up.

2-Month Visit:
The baby is beginning to metamorphose into his or her own little personality.
Baby is due for the Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis vaccinations (DtaP), Polio (IPV), Hemophilius Influenza (HiB), and Pneumococcus (Prevnar) vaccination.

3-Month Visit:
The baby is smiling and growing.
HepB#2 is due

4-Month Visit:
The baby is giving you unconditional love at this point even more so than before.
Due for Dtap#2, Hib#2 IPV#2 and Prevnar#2

6-Month Visit:
The baby is rolling, trying to sit up and is getting ready for foods. Dtap#3, Hib#3,Prevnar#3
 

9-Month Visit:
The baby is crawling, pulling up on you or the furniture, time to baby proof the little one’s world and get ready to be in top aerobic shape!!

12-Month Visit:
The little person is waving bye –bye and saying mama and dada, may have started small steps with hands held or walk free ready to take on the world.
Chicken pox vaccine

15-Month Visit:
Babbling up a storm, trying to feed themselves and making you wonder where do they get the energy?
Time for Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and Hib #4

18-Month Visit:
Running around, saying more words, adventurous toddlers getting ready to explore beyond the familiar.
Dtap#4, IPV#3,Prevnar#4

24-Month Visit:
The twos are here. They can be a joyful year and trying at the same time. Discipline is discussed. Even though we don’t see you back till 3 yrs of age we will be answering behavior questions and open for behavioral consults. No shots till 4-5 years of age.

36-Month Visit:
The child is growing to be curious and industrious. Preschool possibilities addressed.

48-Month Visit
:
Structure and formal education, preparation for school, creativity and social readiness reviewed.

5-Year Visit: Time for Kindergarten. Is the child ready and more questions answered.
The final set of Kindergarten shots: Dtap#5, IPV# 4 and MMR#2

After the 5-yr exam, physicals are every year or every other year depending on the child’s health status. Tetanus booster is given at 13-14 years of age. Meningococcal vaccine is administered prior to college if indicated.

Seeing your pediatrician for sports physicals helps keep your child’s medical records and health history up to date. We are trained to identify and treat both medical and bone/joint problems that are commonly seen in children and adolescents who play sports.
